BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Global Operations & Program Support Services
The U.S. Civilian Research & Development Foundation (CRDF) seeks a Business Development Manager to join its Global Operations & Program Support Services (GOPSS) team. The CRDF is a nonprofit charitable organization that promotes international scientific and technical collaboration through grants, technical resources, and training. CRDF has active programs and services in Eurasia and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and Southeast Asia.
Position Summary:
The Business Development Manager is responsible for program marketing/new business development, client relations, new project development and service evaluation for GAP with the goal of identifying and attracting new clients, assisting clients in developing new projects consistent with CRDF requirements, maintaining positive client relations and evaluating/improving services/performance. Activities will include planning and attending conferences, and workshops; international and domestic travel for client meetings and presentations; and other similar activities.
Major Responsibilities:
- Identifies potential clients for GAP or other organizational services, develops engagement strategy and markets services to new clients.
- Develops new client leads into new proposals/projects/applications consistent with GAP requirements.
- Identifies and participates in marketing opportunities (events, workshops, etc.) and represents CRDF and GAP in various external events to market program services.
- Manages department collaboration with Communications staff in development of program marketing materials, Web site content, and related PR activities.
- Conducts research on potential new services, new geographic regions for application of existing services and other market research and develops recommendations for the VP, GOPSS.
- Conducts regular client surveys and GAP service evaluation to ensure "quality control" and consistency of services. Recommends and implements, as appropriate, improvements/corrective actions. Coordinates with Director of Evaluation as appropriate in development of survey materials.
- Builds and maintains relationships with multiple external and internal clients, including some of the following as appropriate for the projects and activities managed: GAP clients, consultants, Development & External Relations staff, other departmental staff, and GAP recipients.
- Engages Department staff in other units in business development efforts (e.g. new service development, client relations, representing the CRDF/GAP at events, etc.).
- Provides training and consultation to other Department managers on GAP marketing, project development and project implementation.
- Coordinates international office GAP marketing/business develop efforts.
- Develops, manages, and is accountable for GAP Business Development budget. Ensures maximum utilization of limited budgetary resources.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in field relevant to the program area
- At least 3 years, depending on the program area, of progressively responsible experience with, and strong skills in, project development and management and program marketing and business development preferably in an international context.
- At least 2 years of marketing experience and strong communications skills – both written and oral.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently with strong organization and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to develop and lead teams in managing project development and marketing activities without direct-line supervisory authority.
- Excellent critical thinking and analysis, planning, and problem solving skills
- Excellent diplomatic and negotiating skills and good judgment
- Ability to network effectively with current and potential clients.
- Entrepreneurial approach to job and good business development skills with the ability to identify and develop new relationships both among current client base and new clients.
- Sufficient understanding of legal, tax and operational issues related to implementing international scientific research, educational and charitable projects, especially in the countries of Eurasia and the Middle East.
- Foreign language proficiency a plus (Russian and/or Arabic a plus).
- Graphic design and related software skills and experience strongly preferred.
Compensation is dependent upon experience.
